Welcome to Taylor Made Texas

We boast a rich history and culture built upon our agricultural roots and small-town atmosphere. Once known as Taylorsville thanks to our proximity to the Great Northern Railroad, Taylor grew into a budding community now known for its Blackland Prairies, famous BBQ, and legendary residents. Located just 30 miles north of the Texas capital of Austin, Taylor offers our visitors a break from the hustle and bustle of the big city scene with our down home hospitality filled with Texas charm.

The Heart of the Barbecue Trail, Taylor is home to the best barbecue in the nation. Let one of the pitmasters at Louie Mueller’s on Second Street, Davis Barbecue and Grocery on Robinson or Taylor Café on Main Street fill you with the pride of their community.

Quench your thirst at our local craft brewery Texas Beer Company and enjoy the unique antique, boutique and specialty shops along Second and Main streets.

Famous citizens of Taylor include Elmer “Pet” Brown (1888-1923), who won the world’s middleweight crown in wrestling in 1914. Also native to Taylor, Bill Pickett (1870-1932), who was a black cowboy, began the practice of “bulldogging” or steer wrestling and in 1971 was posthumously inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame. There is a bronze statue of him outside Taylor Beer Company and at the Fort Worth Rodeo Grounds.

Their school system features Legacy Early College High School where students can earn their high school diploma and associate’s degree at the same time with no cost to the student. Legacy has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency and Education Service Center Region 13 in Austin as a demonstration high-performing campus for its incorporation of best practices.

Taylor offers prime commercial space close to all modes of transportation and retail venues steeped in history and imagination. The Chamber membership is indicative of a diverse mix of commerce, manufacturing and entrepreneurship.

Due to the recent growth and expansion in the region, this suburb north of Austin has been on the cusp of the development wave for some time now. We are seeing new and exciting things coming to Taylor in all aspects of work and play life.

  • Williamson County Expo Center Expansion – This 48,000 sq. ft. of area and convention center just north of Austin is home now to rodeos and agricultural events and with the expansion will be able to house concerts, markets, festivals, livestock shows and much more.
  • Taylor ISD – The Taylor ISD bond passed in 2015 and will allow for the expansion, renovation and construction of facilities for sports and recreation including a new field house and multi-purpose stadium, a permanent structure for the Legacy Early College High School, an elementary school expansion and improvements to Taylor Middle School.
  • Economic Development Sites – The Taylor Economic Development Corporation has developed and constructed a 50,000 sq. ft. speculative site to house incoming industries interested in locating their businesses in Taylor. Furthermore, the TEDC has more than 500,000 sq. ft. of industrial and commercial space available for businesses at Mustang Creek Industrial Park, Walnut Creek Commercial Park and in our historic downtown area.

From the city park system and abundant water supply, to the new County Exposition Center and coming-soon downtown skate park, to acres of ready land and a low cost of living – experience “Taylor-Made Texas!” We hope you enjoy your stay in Taylor, whether it’s for business or pleasure, and hope you come back soon!
